No. That would be pointless and unprofitable. Geese and ducks have always been valued for their meat and were hunted in the past.
Over time, some species such as geese and mallards have been domesticated to make it easier to obtain their eggs, meat and down and feathers.
Today, geese and ducks are bred for their meat, not for their down and feathers. The down and feathers are a valuable by-product of meat production.
We only use down from appropriately reared, dead animals and guarantee careful processing.
No animal has to suffer, because the down and feathers are a by-product of meat production. The animals are therefore already dead when they are plucked.
The basic rule is that healthy animals give good meat and good down and feathers. Therefore, nobody wants the animals.
But since checking is always better than trust, we only use down and feathers that are DOWNPASS® certified for our products.
Animal-friendly rearing is guaranteed by the internationally recognised DOWNPASS® certification. DOWNPASS® products stand for high quality and the assurance that the down and feathers used as fill material have been ethically produced and come from strictly controlled and traceable supply chains.
All our producers are DOWNPASS® certified and only use down and feathers from animals that have not been plucked alive.
We do not use down and feathers from live plucking or foie gras production in our bedding.
The breeding of the animals and the quality of the filling materials are monitored by independent testing institutes.
